Public Safety

Public Safety

We are fortunate to have the best across the board with our public safety.  Our Sheriff’s Office National Accreditation is a professional standard that only 3% of the law enforcement agencies nationwide have achieved. , our County Marshall’s office and our E-911 Communication Center are nationally accredited, our EMS Agency was awarded Agency of the Year and our Fire Department is ranked in the top 4% percent nationwide.  In 2018, our Fire Department earned an ISO rating of 2.  Homeowners, renters and business owners will benefit from this accomplishment with substantial reductions in their property insurance.

My Plan:

I fully support our public safety departments.  These men and women work tirelessly to protect us every day. These dedicated individuals deserve competitive compensation and they should have the equipment needed to keep them safe as they protect and serve us.

Cherokee County makes a considerable investment in training our public safety employees.  The training programs here in Cherokee far exceed the minimum required by the state. Our county has an excellent benefit package, however the compensation for these highly trained individuals is not competitive with neighboring counties.  Many of these highly trained individuals are leaving Cherokee County to seek higher compensation offered by other counties.  We must adjust our compensation plan to be competitive with neighboring counties so that we can retain the service of these highly trained individuals.
